Real climate heroes!
The striking and extensive roots of the mangroves make up the unique properties of the mangroves. With them you will find support even on soft ground. So they offer numerous animal species a safe shelter. At the same time, mangroves filter the surrounding water and protect the coastal sediment with their roots. But that's far from it!
Mangroves can store 3 to 5 times more carbon per hectare than tropical forests on land. Due to their carbon storage, mangroves have a positive impact on our global climate.
But be careful! The deforestation of mangroves would turn the “climate miracle mangrove” into a “climate killer”!

Why in madagascar?
Madagascar is more than just an island from an animated film. The wild jungle of Madagascar is home to numerous rare plants and animals. Many of these species are only found on the island in the Indian Ocean. But more than 90% of Madagascar's original forests have already been destroyed!
Forest destruction is a global phenomenon that is caused and driven by a multitude of factors. The three main causes of deforestation are: The expansion of agriculture and infrastructure as well as the increased use of wood. The last remnants of Madagascar's rainforest are endangered by slash and burn and illegal deforestation!

Every month we publish our balance sheet on how many mangroves we have planted in Madagascar together with the Eden Project and how many tons of CO2 could be offset.

We are aware that we cannot change the world immediately with this project. Of course, the global climate cannot be changed or saved overnight with small cuttings. But each of us can contribute to having a positive influence on the climate crisis by making small changes in our own lifestyle!
Every cutting is a statement for more sustainability. We trust in the local work of our partners who reduce local poverty and reforest forests.
